In a a downward turn of event for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, several of its members in Ife South Local Government, again defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday September 25, 2024. The defectors, led by their ward leaders, were welcomed into the PDP fold by the state chairman of the ruling PDP, Hon Sunday Bisi.
The defectors from various blocs of the badly haemorrhaging Apc, were led by leaders from the electoral wards of the local government.
Chief Omoniyi Abel led hundreds of defectors from Abiri Ogudu ward, Mrs Comfort Esan led others from Osi ward, Salami Quadri from Ayesan ward, Alesinloye Serifat from Aare ward, Ogunwobi Yinka and Hon Olanrewaju Adewale from Ikija Ward: Hon Aje Samuel from Mefoworade Ward, while Hon Bello Kazeem led others from Oke-Owena ward.
Hon Diran Ayabeku, a prominent leader in Ifetedo and Chairman, Governing Council of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, assured the defectors of equal rights as members of the ruling party, urging them to quickly settle down and work with others for continued progress of the PDP.
Hon Akin Famiyide ‘Jagu’, the Osun East PDP Senatorial Chairman also welcomed the defectors and charged them to work assiduously, not just as members of PDP family, but as valuable stakeholders in the affairs of the state
The leaders of the defecting blocs took turns to commend Governor Ademola Adeleke’s good works, which they cited as their main source of motivation to move to the PDP. They promised to make good of their numbers and show up for the PDP in the forthcoming local government and the 2026 governorship elections in the state.
Hon Sunday Bisi, PDP State Chairman, who had earlier handed the PDP flags to the defectors, assured that, the PDP administration of His Excellency, Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke will continue to take steps capable of addressing all deficits in the standard of living of residents of the state incured by the ousted APC.
“It is our duty to keep the wicked Apc in its place as moribund and helpless opposition. We must keep our state away from their looting fangs, not just for all of us now, but for that of the coming generations” Hon Sunday Bisi noted.
