The fractured Osun state chapter of the All Progressive Congress(APC) is not happy that Governor Ademola Adeleke is ramping up efforts to resolve the protracted judicial strike action in the state. The opposition is satisfied that the courts are locked down and the party preferred that there should be no settlement between the union and the leadership of the state judiciary.
We condemn the above unpatriotic position of the opposition as openly canvassed in a statement the opposition released this Sunday and we commend Governor Ademola Adeleke for his courage, broad mind, and responsiveness to intervene in the industrial disputes.
We laud the Governor for listening to several calls from within and outside the state for his intervention despite the fact that the matter is a pure judicial issue between staff and management of the judicial sector. We appreciate why Mr Governor was reluctant to act so as not to appear to be meddling in judicial matters.
The party particularly appreciates all previous efforts of the Governor to resolve the matter, especially his payment of salaries of judicial workers that were diverted and even the hosting of the union leadership from Abuja.
The decision of the Governor to set up a conflict resolution committee under the Secretary to the State Governor is even more commendable. Alongside the seven day ultimatum, the Governor’s briefing letters to the Attorney General and the Chief Justice of Nigeria are all steps in the right direction
As for the opposition, PDP is an example of a listening party in power. We are not deaf and dumb on state policy like the previous government. We are not sadistic like our predecessor in the exercise of state power.
Our party is not like the state APC that is a devil pretending to be an angel. We are not perfect as no human organization is perfect but we are not afraid to listen to the wishes and aspirations of the people who elected us into office.
Governor Adeleke is governing in line with the above philosophy and that is why his popularity rating has hit over 99 percent. We hail his decision to take the initiatives on the judicial strike and we urge the APC to learn people-centered governance from us.
Signed:
Hon Sunday Bisi,
State Chairman,
Osun State PDP.
